All of us at the Uehiro Academy, our colleagues, and friends, extend our heartfelt congratulations to the Uehiro Foundation on Ethics in Education for being awarded the distinct honor and status of “Public Interest Incorporated Foundation” under the auspices of the office of the cabinet in the government of Japan. We are honored to be part of the Foundation’s important work in ethics and education, helping to create a more just, compassionate world.

p4cHI International Journaling and Self-Study Project

In September of 2014 a team of p4cHI researchers and practitioners will begin an international journaling and self-study project. The purpose of the project is to investigate what it means to be a facilitator/teacher in a p4cHI community of inquiry. The project will use self-study methodologies to create an intellectually safe online journaling community so that the group can collectively engage in a “systematic and critical examination of [our] actions and [our] context as a path to develop a more consciously driven mode of professional activity” (Samaras & Freese, 2006, p. 11). The participants will include seven-p4cHI community of inquiry practitioners from five different countries. The project will emphasize self-reflection, dialogue, professional and personal growth, and learning about the cross-cultural relationships and connections that are being made between each of the international p4cHI practitioners involved. What's coming- p4cHI international journaling and self...

p4cHI and Deliberative Pedagogy

Latest News - p4cHI and deliberative pedagogyIn May of 2014 Dr. Amber Strong Makaiau traveled to the Kettering Foundation to participate in the foundation’s Deliberative Pedagogy Work Group meeting. The Kettering Foundation is a non-profit who supports cooperative research. The foundation’s main research question is, “what does it take to make democracy work as it should?” The Kettering Foundation is interested in learning more about p4cHI and the relationship between p4cHI and deliberative pedagogy. Dr. Makaiau is currently working on a book chapter titled, A Citizen’s Education: p4c Hawai‘i Style Deliberative Pedagogy.

American Educational Research Association Annual Conference

Latest News - American Educational Research...
In April of 2014 visiting Uehiro Academy scholar Suguru Fukui, doctoral candidate Lu Leng, and Uehiro Academy faculty member Dr. Amber Strong Makaiau presented their paper Journaling and Self-Study in an International Research Collective at the American Educational Research Association annual conference in Philadelphia, PA. The paper documents their work in forming an international p4cHI research community of inquiry.
